About Us Our Range Our Philosophy About silk Silk Care Basket

Thai Duponi silk, also known as raw silk, is produced by silk worms that feed on the mulberry bush in the north east of Thailand. They spin their cocoons comprising of a thread 500 to 1500 meters long. These cocoons are harvested, washed and soaked in vats of natural hot dyes, stretched and wound onto spools for weaving.

The silk is woven on traditional looms by the hands of independent rural Thai women. It is this process that makes Thai silk a unique piece of work which carries forever an imprint of the emotions, feelings, spirit and character of the weaver. The silk fabric produced is soft with a course texture made up of irregular silk threads. Thai silk has an exotic, rich beauty and can last a lifetime. The silk fibre is strong but light weight and thread for thread it is stronger than steel. This makes it a fantastic textile currently popular with designers of luxury clothing and accessories.
